How Personal Search & Universal Search Impacts on SEO
Search engines are changing. With Universal Search the text on your website is still important but now images, videos and local results will all assist a website to rank well for any given keyword term entered into an search engine.
This opens up a range of opportunities for an SEO marketer. A website is now able to expand search results by appearing multiple times on the search engine results page (SERP). However it is important to note that universal search can negatively impact your rankings. Local listings can push your site, which ranks number one in the general listings, outside the fold of the SERP’s.
Personal search, a search based on a particular users browsing habits, is also changing the way your website ranks, as it alters from person to person and location to location. It is now much harder to control your search rankings across the board.
So how do you optimize your website? The current opinion is first and foremost stick to the traditional methods of SEO, then gradually introduce new media methods as universal search currently represents a small portion of the overall optimization, however this portion will continue to grow as search becomes more personalized to the individual searcher.
