How to Select a Great Domain Name

Many people are frustrated when it comes to selecting and registering a domain name for their website.  It is actually a very simple process but there are a number of factors that you should take into consideration.   First of all, it is now generally recognized that the primary search engines give significant priority consideration to the suffix – com/net/org etc. – of your domain.  Therefore do not select or accept a recommended domain with a .biz, .info, or .us suffix.

Given that the primary suffixes are probably already taken for the keywords you are attempting to promote, you will need to get creative in your naming strategy.   An example should suffice here.  If you plan to sell baseball gloves you will find that most of the primary suffixes are already registered.   Most people would opt, therefore, for a .biz or .info or .us suffix so they can retain the ‘baseballgloves’ base name.  In reality, what you should do is try registering mybaseballgloves or something like that – any of which you might be able to reserve with a .com, .net, or .org suffix.  The prefixes are universally ignored by top search engines.   You can even try adding hyphens, etc. to the mix of keywords.

The next thing you should know is that the primary search engines give great ranking ‘juice’ to domains where the name itself is or contains the keywords being promoted.  This is a huge advantage over other sites that do not conform to that standard.  Finally, in this section of domain considerations is the Page name vis-à-vis the keyword.  If you name your primary landing or selling page mybaseball-gloves.org/baseballgloves.html you stand a much better chance of outranking someone else who is selling baseball gloves and has an identical number of content pages and inbound links.  This will produce higher ranking than if the other site also has the keyword in their domain name.   It is the little things like this that are either unknown or unrealized by most internet marketers.

You should also remember, when working with your website authoring software, to refresh and clear the cache on your browser after you upload any changes to your site.   You will also need to keep a closely maintained Windows System Registry.  You can purchase and download a top registry software package that does this.  They also perform the other registry fix functions that accomplish any needed Registry Repair.
